MILWAUKEE -- Brewers manager Ron Roenicke is a much bigger fan of video replay than his San Francisco counterpart Bruce Bochy - at least for one night. Jaleel Johnson Youth Jersey . Gerardo Parra snapped a tie with a home run in the seventh -- his first hit since been acquired by the Brewers -- and Milwaukee recorded the final out of its 4-3 victory Tuesday night against the San Francisco Giants when a replay review overturned a safe call at first base. With two outs in the ninth, Brewers closer Frankie Rodriguez walked Hunter Pence. Joe Panik then bounced to second baseman Rickie Weeks, who was shielded on the play by Pence before making the throw to first. Brewers Roenicke challenged the safe call by first base umpire Hal Gibson, which was overturned after a review of about 3 minutes, 17 seconds. "I thought he was definitely out but with replay, you cant see everything clearly, you dont make the call," Roenicke said. "They got the call right; he was out." Bochy saw the same play, but obviously had a different opinion of the overturned call. "I didnt think they were going to overturn it," Bochy said. "I just dont see how it got overturned. It was so close. You always hear the word conclusive. But they did, and that is the game." The victory preserved the Brewers one-game lead in the NL Central Division over St. Louis, which rallied past Boston 3-2. Pittsburgh fell 2 1-2 games back after losing to Miami, 6-3. Parra, acquired at the trade deadline from Arizona, homered with two outs off reliever Jean Machi (6-1). He also made a sensational sliding catch in the eighth inning in foul territory on Brandon Crawfords opposite-field slicing fly ball with runners on first and second for the second out. "It was certainly important on both ends," Roenicke said. "The defence, we know, hes a gold-glover, what kind of arm he has. We know he has range out there. Hes shown he has a good feel for where he is in the field." Rookie Jimmy Nelson (2-2) allowed three runs on six hits in seven innings for Milwaukee. Rodriguez pitched the ninth for his 33rd save. The Giants erased a 3-0 deficit on Pablo Sandovals three-run homer off Nelson in the sixth. "Pablo really delivered for us," Bochy said. "Youd like to win a game when you make a nice comeback like that. We are in August, they are not do-or-die games but they are really, really important." Carlos Gomez staked the Brewers to a 2-0 lead in the third with his 16th home run off Tim Lincecum. Gomez also drove in the Brewers third run in the fifth on a perfect squeeze bunt after Weeks advanced to third on a two-out wild pitch. "Thats an outstanding play," Roenicke said. "Thats a guy looking at the game, at what needs to be done and knew that one run was more important than him maybe driving a ball into the gap. "It was great timing and great execution." DOUBLE DUTY Milwaukees Jonathan Lucroy doubled twice to give him 37 on the season, second in the NL to Arizonas Paul Goldschmidt, who has 39, but is out for the remainder of the season with a broken left hand. SCORED UPON (FINALLY) Parras home run off Machi snapped a streak of 23 1-3 consecutive scoreless innings by the Giants bullpen. HOT-HITTING NELSON Nelsons third-inning single was his second hit in his last three at-bats, which followed 66 hitless at-bats as a professional, 59 in the minors and his first seven with the Brewers. UPON FURTHER REVIEW Brewers shortstop Jean Segura made a sensational play behind second, spinning to throw out Pence at first to apparently end the third inning. But, Giants manager Bruce Bochy challenged the call and it was overturned. TRAINERS ROOM Giants: Outfielder Angel Pagan, who was scheduled to play his second rehab game Tuesday night with Triple-A Fresno, could rejoin the Giants on Wednesday in Milwaukee. He has been on the DL with back issues. Brewers: Manager Ron Roenicke has yet to decide who will start in place of injured right-hander Matt Garza, on the 15-day DL with a strained oblique. Marco Estrada, moved to the bullpen after 18 starts, is a likely candidate. ON DECK Ryan Vogelsong (6-8, 3.74 ERA), who allowed just one run on two hits in nine innings in his last start after going 0-4 with a 4.55 ERA in July, faces Yovani Gallardo (6-5, 3.38 ERA). The Brewers; right-hander has a string of 16 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings. Pat Elflein Vikings Jersey . The 23-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., defeated Germanys Benjamin Becker 6-3, 6-4 on Tuesday in the fourth round of the Sony Open in just 89 minutes. Dalvin Cook Vikings Jersey . 5 Trade Deadline is drawing closer and teams will be deciding on whether to buy or sell while figuring out which players can make the biggest difference and hold the greatest value.BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Alex Ovechkin knew what he was going to do before he heard Capitals teammate Mike Green yelling for the pass. Faking a shot to freeze Buffalo Sabres goalie Jhonas Enroth, Ovechkin fed a pass through the middle to a wide-open Green, who snapped it into the open right side one minute into overtime and sealed Washingtons 5-4 win on Tuesday night. "Oh, he screamed so loud, but I knew he was out there," said Ovechkin, who finished with two goals and two assists. "I gave him the pass. It was a little bit forward but it was good for him. It was good for our team. He reached it and put it in." The setup was also payback for a goal Ovechkin was credited with in putting the Capitals up 2-0 early the first period. Thats when Greens shot banked in off Ovechkins leg and into the net. "Yeah, I felt sorry for Greeny," Ovechkin said. "But it is what it is." Green was grateful to be able to finish off a game in which the Capitals never trailed. "He made a great play," Green said. "I know its tough for him not to shoot the puck, but what an unselfish play that was." Green had two goals and an assist, and Troy Brouwer added a goal and assist. Washington (24-21-8) was coming off a 5-0 win at Montreal on Saturday and won consecutive games for the first time since Jan. 9-10. The Capitals have suddenly rediscovered their offence. Theyve combined for 10 goals in two games after managing just eight during an 0-5-2 skid. Washingtons power play also came to life in converting two of three chances after going 1 for 32 in its previous nine games. Cody Hodgson had two goals and Christian Ehrhoff and rookie Phil Varone, with the first of his career, also scored for Buffalo. The Sabres (14-30-8) dropped to 1-4-3 in their past eight. Enroth stopped 30 shots to drop to 1-11-4 on the season and extend his losing streaking to 12 straight (0-9-3) Hodgson focused on the positives by noting how the Sabres refused to fold in rallying back each time the Capitals went ahead. "I think we had a lot of character in that room," said Hodgson, who has six goals and 10 points in eight games since returning from a thumb injury. "We showed a lot of guts battling back." Hodgson forced overtime by scoring on a solid individual play 6:48 into thee third period. Dalvin Cook Jersey. With a delayed penalty being called against Washington forward Jason Chimera, Hodgson got to a loose puck in the right circle. He then weaved his way past two defenders and lifted a backhander over goalie Braden Holtbys right shoulder. Despite playing on back-to-back nights following a 3-0 loss at Pittsburgh, the Sabres found their stride as the game progressed. They outshot Washington 10-1 through the first 10 minutes of the third period and 13-6 over the final 21 minutes. What the Sabres couldnt overcome was Ovechkin, who showed no signs of the lower body injury that sidelined him for two games last week. With a goal and assist against Montreal, the Capitals captain now has six points in his past two, and combined for eight goals and six assists in his past 11. Ovechkin upped his NHL-leading goal total to 38 and enjoyed his 14th multipoint game of the season. He also upped his career total to 790 points, moving into second on the Capitals list, one ahead of Mike Gartner. "Hes the face of the franchise. And we count on him every night," Capitals coach Adam Oates said, noting the distractions Ovechkin faces in preparing to represent Russia at the Sochi Winter Games in two weeks. "Hes had a lot of demands on his time being pulled in a lot of different directions. Glad to see him rewarded tonight. We needed the points, and he got it done for us." Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom was shaken up after being elbowed to the head by Sabres defensman Mike Weber in front of the benches with a minute left in the third period. Backstrom was skating toward the bench well away from the play when Weber reached up and struck him. Weber was not penalized and could potentially be disciplined by the NHL. NOTES: Sabres RW Drew Stafford missed his second game with an upper body injury. ... Capitals C Ryan Stoa was a healthy scratch after being called up from AHL Hershey earlier in the day. Stoa appeared in his first NHL game since playing 25 during the 2010-11 season with Colorado. ... Earlier in the day, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman revealed to The Associated Press that the league is considering the Sabres proposal to relocate the annual pre-draft combine from Toronto to Buffalo, where the team is building a two-rink hockey/entertainment complex.
