Big Game?

11/02/09 at 08:03 AM #1 xGunCrazyx
Was wondering what game is being planned for the "Big Game" slot. I'm hoping we can get a 64 player BF2 going. Although the modded version we played at the last one was ok, I'd vote for straight up BF2.

What are your guys' thoughts and suggestions?

Oh, just noticed that it's that browser game we were playing at the last one... weak

Hopefully we can get a little BF2 in during freeplay Iguess, a lot better when it's organized though

Edit:Looks like Iwas wrong again lol. Iguess "PlayTribes" is a different game, pretty much browser based version of the original tribes. According to Wikipedia it's not even being released until December or January :S

Wish we could get a BF2 game going like the Spring 08 one, that was probably my favorite event of any of the InfernaLANs I've been to

I plan on having a dedicated BF2 and BF2 Desert Combat server running with maximum player support.

At this point I'm uncertain about whether Garage Games will even be present. If they don't attend I will switch Big Game to BF2.

Is there a reason why Garage Games might not show up?

Either way, hopefully we can get in some BF2 goodness during the LAN

Money is tight all around and they're no different than the rest of us. They did a wonderful job supporting all the LANFests in the first half of the year. But I don't think management was really expecting a second round of events in the second half of 2009. I have a verbal acknowledgement that they enjoyed InfernaLAN and really want to come back, I'm still awaiting confirmation.

I believe their quote was, "InfernaLAN is the biggest little LAN party we've ever seen."

I took that as a supreme compliment.

Which BF2 package do I need?  I can get just the game for $9.99 or the Complete Collection for $27.99.  We have a few members that don't have it yet.

now that EU and AF are included for everyone for free, i don't think you'll need anything but he $10 one. i doubt we'll be playing special forces.

I'm grabbing the complete collection off Steam either way, patching BF2 was always a pain in the ass for me during past LANs
Hoping it'll be a weekend sale before the LAN though

Looks like Garage Games is out. We'll switch the Big Game over to BF2. Is ForceRun going to be there to run the big game? He's been great at it in the past.

So if we have BF2 patched to version 1.5 will we be in good shape for the big game?  We have about 20 people coming and we would like to have our machines ready before showing up at the InfernaLAN.

Thanks.

Just make sure you have latest and greatest (whatever the final version was). I'll make sure all patch files are available on patch so even if you only have base installations complete, the latest stuff will be hosted locally.

Went ahead and just purchased the normal version off Amazon, it was only $7
Installing everything today, patching up to 1.5
Hopefully we won't need Special Forces, though I don't remember ever playing it at a LAN before lol
Can't wait for the Big Game

Yeh, we didn't play special forces at the LAN. I don't have it either. Last time we played a free mod that was available on "patch". Maybe this time we can try some vanilla BF2?

I think (and hope) that is the plan, I wasn't too big on the mod last time to be honest.
The Spring 08 InfernaLAN's BF was epic though, hoping it'll be like that this time around

There are plenty of good mods for the game.   I frankly prefer them over vanilla gameplay to be honest.

Any time you get 32 vs. 32 all in the same room, the mods don't mean dick. It's all about screaming at your neighbors and whooping and hollering.

Which reminds me... I don't have it installed on my new rig.  Damn!

I don't remember there being prizes for any of the past ones
At one they took a picture of the winning team though
